If you frequent Hacker News or Reddit and don't want to make
reading these sites your full-time job, you should absolutely install
Social Hotness. It's a Google Chrome extension that colors text
using different shades according to the vote/comment counts, like this
Hacker News with Social Hotness installed
Vanilla Hacker News
Links with high number of votes are colored with dark blue. Links with
high number of comments are colored with dark red (on fire). Yes, this
is data visulization, the most useful one I've ever seen. Now you can
skim through all those links on the page, finding the most
voted/commented at a glance, ignoring ones with less impact.
For the last few years, Hacker News & Reddit are the two sites I have
been checking multiple times a day, I have restraited, but still,
Multiple Times a Day (tm). One day I wrote this and have been using it
for more than two years now, today I recommend it to you.
